Americans
are living in a culture and economy that highly values and markets “individual pleasure” and “instant gratification” as top
priorities. The unintended and deadly side effects of this are constant anxiety, isolation, loneliness,
indifference to others and increased violence. As isolation increases,
self-rejection increases; as self-rejection increases, isolation increases.
This is a toxic and potentially deadly mix. Without being anchored to
principles and values that are shared by others, life is like living in a
